SAFE AND EQUITABLE SCHOOLS FOR ALL CHILDREN

We are a team of experienced NYC educators committed to a restorative approach toward building positive and safe schools for all children.

EVERY CHILD DESERVES TO SUCCEED IN SCHOOL AND LIFE

Our model aims to change the mindset and practices of adults in order to create a culture of community, empathy and responsibility.

AT THE CENTER OF THE PLC APPROACH IS COMMUNITY

Relationships are at the heart of everything we do, beginning by building an open and trusting relationship with your school.

MEASURING OUR IMPACT EVERY STEP OF THE WAY

The results of our citywide work are continuously tracked.  In 2018 we saw significant reductions in violent incidents and suspensions.

We’re a partnership designed to ensure every child succeeds.

The Positive Learning Collaborative (PLC) is a partnership between the United Federation of Teachers and NYC Department of Education that helps schools ensure that every child develops the social, emotional and academic skills needed to succeed in school and life.

Helping to create a safe, positive and supportive school climate.

Our interdisciplinary team provides consistent support to schools and utilizes a multi-tiered and trauma-informed approach to helping your school become a positive, safe and supportive place for your entire school community.

The PLC model is proven to decrease suspensions, improve social & academic outcomes and strengthen school communities.

ON-SITE TRAINING FOR STAFF AND PARENTS

Workshops include “Welcoming Schools,” the Human Rights Campaign’s curriculum to create safe and respectful spaces for all kinds of students & families, and includes modules on bias-based bullying and LGBTQ inclusivity.

R

DEVELOPMENT OF A COMMON LANGUAGE

We do this by training all staff in Cornell University’s four-day Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools (TCIS), firstly by training administrators and UFT chapter leaders.  Above all, the aim is to train 100% of your school — anyone who is part of your community.

R

ON-SITE COMMUNITY BUILDING CIRCLES

Our team trains and coaches small cohorts of staff around implementing circles in the classroom setting.  Further, we lead professional development around utilizing Restorative Practices in response to harm, so staff learn how to shift their mindsets from a punitive to a restorative approach.

At the center of the PLC model is COMMUNITY.

Working with the Positive Learning Collaborative is an intensive, multi-year partnership that is relationship-focused and tailor-made to specifically spark collaboration in your school community.  Most importantly, relationships are at the heart of everything we do, beginning by building an open and trusting relationship with your school.

In short, our model changes the mindset and practices of adults, thereby creating a culture of community, empathy and responsibility.
